Rush Limbaugh, The Perfect Scapegoat for America’s Failing Negro Population

Gaius Lawrenitis Negris over at the Magic Negro Watch blog posted this rant and I concur:
To those of you who have read any of my previous rants before on ignorant ass black people and liberalism just ignore this post.
I have nothing new to say on this topic. I will recycle the oft spoken diatribes of use black right wingers who have grown frustrated with left wing Negros and their useless stupidity and their self destructive nonsense.
As I have repeated over and over I find myself as far removed mentally and spiritually from your typical American Negro as you can get and still have us exist on the same planet.

My reason for this latest rant is to simply record my opinion for those who may find this piece somewhat interesting long after I have assumed room temperature.

A couple of things sparked this particular rant. One is the intrusion of an acquaintance of mine. This young man in his 30, talented musician but one of millions of young black men who have decided that contributing to society is not his cup of tea.
He exists to leach off of others, asking for favors, tarnishing friendships because he lacks the self discipline to stand on his own two feet.
He is symptomatic of the countless numbers of black folks I dealt with as a kid, needy, occasionally angry (for no good reason), self destructive and always wallowing in self pity.
Here is a man who would never think of calling me for a drink simply for the social aspect. Every contact must involve me doing something for him, from giving him a ride somewhere, helping him move something or some other time wasting indulgence. Thus having that beer that sparked the initial contact almost always would be delayed or postponed.
Mrs. Gaius had a similar barnacle in her life a few years back. The female version of the young man I mentioned. Despite Mrs. Gaius’s best efforts to be supportive and to be a friend this young lady stabbed her in the back and proceeded to berate her and mock their relationship. To add to the frustration this individual stole money from our home (as did her son) and “neglected” to pay back a loan of $500 (which I did not find out about until much later).

But forget that…

My other reason for my rant is this relentless attack on Rush Limbaugh and his interest in purchasing a part of the St. Louis Rams franchise.

During the last hour of his show he played back a number of sound clips from ignorant ass Negros like Mercury Morris (former Miami Dolphins player in the early 70’s) to DeMarco Farr former NFL player now hack commentator.

Much of their condemnation of Rush is the result of their ignorance of the man. Although none of these idiot Negros listen to him and all attribute fake unfounded racial rhetoric to they reasoning to why they think the man should not be allowed to own an NFL franchise.

I know I have said this before but it bears repeating here. I have listen to Rush since the beginning of his radio show over 21 years ago.
I jokingly point out there is only one other person on the planet in which I have had a longer ongoing relationship with is that is my oldest daughter.
I recognized early on that Rush’s opinions are very similar to my own, I get him, I understand his brand of humor, I understand his take on conservatism, I understand what drives him and despite what labels liberals consistently throw at him one thing he is not and that is racist and the notion that he is a racist is not even slightly logical.
However I don’t need to defend Rush, I’m a lone right wing black dude with an obscure blog that a few people read; I’m very middle income working on a college campus and there is no doubt that his income will continue to soar long after this NFL controversy has reached its peak.

My never ending disdain will forever be targeted towards the millions of tired intellectually bankrupt Negros that populate this country; the legions of useless brooding nitwits who allow themselves to be played like a puppet with scheming white liberals directing the action.

Anybody who reads my blog have seen the countless comedy skits of Negros Behaving Badly” through this nation with more and more intellectual vacancy and lack of basic self respect forever on display.

I use to be black and extremely angry, but no more. I simply refuse devote the mental resources towards being “angry” because I learned long ago that devoting any anger towards Negros who will always see themselves as second class citizens is futile.

While these nitwits Negros spew out a bunch of nonsensical rhetoric towards Rush they conveniently forget history.
How many of these race pimps who bemoan Rush’s perceived racism remember that before 1965, the year in which President Johnson launched his war-on-poverty government handout campaign, 82 percent of black American families were two-parent households. Today, 83 percent of all black children are born out of wedlock and grow up fatherless.
Rush is of course responsible for this.
This fact highlights the obvious, this fatherless Negro society contributes to high crime, poverty, drug abuse and illegitimate births in the Negro community. What destroyed the black family? Without question, the culprit is liberalism.
However these jackass Negro liberals bitching about Rush owning an NFL franchise must think that Rush is responsible for black on black crime, and Negro illegitimacy right?
Remember the teachers in Oakland who argued that English is too difficult for Negro students and Ebonics should be an accepted alternative. Rush would never stand for such liberal stupidity because he obviously doesn’t care about the well being of Negro children.
While liberal Democrats controlled the House and Senate for over 40 years, Negros suffered and endured the deterioration of their once morally strong, faith- and family-based community.
That evil, racist Rush, someone who has always promoted his own faith is no doubt responsible for the deterioration of these values.
White liberals who proclaim to be supporters of Negros consistently fight against right wing types at every turn, playing their tried and true black vote-securing trump cards: race and class envy. For every white person who “has” some Negro is a “have not.” Rush is no doubt the blame for this.
Most of us with a measure of basic common sense know that all racist theologies have the same basic core ideas and methodology. It does not really matter if we are talking about the KKK, the Nation of Islam or Black liberal theology, their focus is always on skin and not sin; race and not grace; gossip and not gospel. Racism is always focused on the outward instead of the inward because it cannot deal with the root problem of personal transgression.
Hatred and violence feed on bitterness and racist rage. Class envy does not help anyone in this life or in the next. Blaming others for one’s own failings and guilt will never solve the problem.
Many of us who had the fortune of having competent parents were taught that we must take responsibility for what we do in life instead of blaming “the man” for our failures and woe.
The tired rhetoric of left wing Negro commentators simply adds to enslave Negros mentally to keep them poor and angry.
While these intellectually challenged, sellout, leftist Negros rant about Rush’s right to pursue a business interest their mentor Barack Hussein Obama promotes leftist policies that will continue to perpetuate record unemployment and record setting deficits none will dare answer the 64 million dollar question, who is a bigger threat to Negros in America Rush Limbaugh or Barack Hussein Obama.

Seventy-five years since FDR’s “New Deal” and 40 years since Lyndon Johnson’s “Great Society” programs, these societal problems have only grown exponentially as shyster lawyers, craven bureaucrats and rapacious pols on both sides of the aisle cry for more tax dollars to fund more ever-expanding government programs. For over 100 years, activist liberal judges have despised the original intent of the Constitution’s framers, creating case law allowing confiscated tax dollars taken from one group of people (producers) to be given to another group of people that didn’t earn it (takers). Liberals call that “redistribution” or “socialism.” I call that legalized thievery.
This has been the center point of Rush’s radio show from day one, however cowardly on air Negro liberal pundits stir the magic brew of misinformation simply to apply the racist tag around Rush’s neck simply to promote and enhance their own careers.
White liberals will gleefully give air time to Negros hell bent on misinforming other clueless Negros.

Left wing idiot Negro pundits lack the guts to shine a light on the true culprits of Negro failures.

Dubious ghetto thugs, Democrat Party heroes of political deception, manipulation, and thievery; no matter how corrupt, retarded Negros willingly entrust their personal and political well being to these contemptible morons.

Glowing examples of Negro political misconduct, take Charlie Rangel a man who would no doubt say in private “it’s much easier to raise taxes if you don’t pay them.”

But NO…Rush is the real problem in America.

Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick who was charged with perjury, obstruction of justice, misconduct in office and other criminal counts.

This elected ghetto thug who citing a $230 million deficit, announced the elimination of 900 public employee jobs and demanded city workers take a 10 percent pay cut and other reduced benefits. This mayor eliminated 24-hour bus service, ordered city-owned vehicles sold.
Meanwhile behind the scenes there wasn’t any belt-tightening going on in the mayor’s office. Several weeks before the budget-cutting announcements the city used taxpayers’ money to lease a $57,000 luxury sport utility vehicle, complete with a moon roof, leather interior and heated seats, for the mayor’s wife and three small sons.
But NO… Rush is the real problem in America

Federal agents searched the Capitol Hill office of a Louisiana congressman under investigation on bribery charges Sunday, while newly released court papers said agents found $90,000 in cash last year in his Washington home.
In a 95-page affidavit used to obtain a warrant for the office search, investigators stated that an August 2005 search of Democratic Rep. William Jefferson’s home turned up the cash sum in a freezer.
The money was divided among various frozen food containers, according to the heavily redacted affidavit.
Agents told a judge the money was part of a $100,000 payment that had been delivered by an informant in the bribery probe, which already has led to guilty pleas by a Kentucky businessman and a former Jefferson aide.

State Sen. Dianne Wilkerson was set free this afternoon on a $50,000 bond after appearing in federal court on attempted extortion charges following a “painstaking” 18-month investigation, during which she was allegedly caught on tape stuffing a cash bribe into her bra, according to a complaint.

“Dianne Wilkerson accepted these cash payments in exchange for her official duties and responsibilities,” said U.S. Attorney Michael Sullivan during a morning news conference at the federal courthouse.

Detroit City Councilwoman Monica Conyers, the wife of House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers Jr., pleaded guilty Friday morning to charges of conspiracy to commit bribery, the Justice Department said.

The terms of the plea agreement were not immediately available, but had been negotiated between prosecutors and Mrs. Conyers’ lawyers for more than a week.

Mrs. Conyers had been under investigation for allegedly accepting bribes from a consultant in connection with a City Council vote to approve a $1.2 billion sludge hauling contract.

Group decries letter to EPA on project tied to wife’s deals

The Landmark Legal Foundation filed Monday a House ethics complaint against Rep. John Conyers Jr., Michigan Democrat, over his role in writing a letter to the Environmental Protection Agency that supported a waste project tied to his wife, a former Detroit City Council member who has pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit bribery.

The foundation, a conservative public interest law firm in Virginia, called Mr. Conyers’ actions in his wife’s political dealings “very serious allegations.” Mr. Conyers is chairman of the House Judiciary Committee and a powerful member of the Congressional Black Caucus.

The foundation said Mr. Conyers attempted to influence the EPA on behalf of a family member, whose office reviewed a draft of the EPA letter he sent. He also violated house rules by failing to report funds in a transaction by his wife, the complaint stated.

(CNN) — The FBI on Monday arrested the mayor of Birmingham, Alabama, on federal charges including conspiracy, bribery, fraud, money laundering and filing false income tax returns.

Larry Langford, 62, is named in an indictment that alleges criminal activity while he was a county commissioner, said U.S. Attorney Alice Martin.

As president of the Jefferson County Commission and head of its department of finance and general services from November 2002 until about November 2006, Langford put his personal affairs ahead of those of the county, Martin said.

“Our investigation has revealed, and the indictment alleges, that Langford sold his public office to his friends and political supporters,” Martin said.

I could go on and on with examples of Negros pushing their own self interests above the lowly self esteem lacking Negros desperately seeking a smidgen of leadership from their Negro political idols.
But no, political corruption run amuck amongst the left wing Negro political elite has no bearing on the lack of education, the declining social values and self destructive tendencies of today’s hapless Negro.
Rush’s on air perceived racist rhetoric is responsible for the demise of the Negro population.

The ever present fact that liberalism only prospers where there is angst, societal upheaval, cultural chaos, crime, apostasy, disorder, jealously, corruption and a zero-sum gain. Liberal rhetoric will always promote the idea that all resources are finite, therefore if one group of people appears to be doing well, liberalism teaches another group that their success is at your expense and you’ve got to get even at all cost.

Which reminds me of another point of why the angst over Rush’s attempted bid to purchase the Rams is more than a little retarded.
I’ve read that the bid to purchase the Rams and why Rush was invited to participate in this bid is because there are folks who want to fight to keep them in St. Louis.
If you have not been to St. Louis there are a numbers of areas in the core of the city that frankly look like a bombed out Iraq.
If the Rams leave there is no doubt that a fair number of black folks already struggling in the area would be affected, loss of jobs being at the top of that list.
So while race hustlers like Al Sharpton rants about Rush’s involvement in the NFL he likely would dismiss himself from the conversation explaining why more Negros in the greater St. Louis area (along with a fair number of white people too) were jobless and unable to support their families.

But just as the ignorance of groups like the NAACP fail to acknowledge that their symbolic protest of a meaningless symbol in South Carolina hurts black folks economically far more than it does the white folks in support of the oft discussed Confederate Flag is just one of countless examples of liberal Negro failures.

Rush Limbaugh is convenient cover to mask the scars of Negro intellectual stupidity and liberal Negro political failures.

When all else in life fails a Negro, just blame the cigar smoking evil white guy black folks don’t even listen too.
It is either that or the next tired stereotypical episode of The Real Housewives of Atlanta.

Medicare = Joke

You would think Medicare’s sheer size might enable it to have smoother procedures with its providers that would enable it to turn down a lower percentage of claims. But no, this is the government we’re talking about.

So who’s the most “heartless” now? And why should Americans accept the idea of gradually being forced into a government-run system when, based on documented government experience, they will be more likely to see their claims denied?

But they don’t discuss how the Gov’t’s existing public option is at the top of the list for denying claims. Oh…..the irony of it all.

Al Gore wins Nobel Prize over woman who saved 2,500 lives

Warsaw, Poland – Irena Sendler – credited with saving some 2,500 Jewish children from the Nazi Holocaust by smuggling them out of the Warsaw Ghetto, some of them in baskets – died Monday, her family said. She was 98.

Sendler was a 29-year-old social worker with the city’s welfare department when Germany invaded Poland in September 1939, launching World War II. Warsaw’s Jews were forced into a walled-off ghetto.
Seeking to save the ghetto’s children, Sendler masterminded risky rescue operations. Under the pretext of inspecting sanitary conditions during a typhoid outbreak, she and her assistants ventured inside the ghetto – and smuggled out babies and small children in ambulances and in trams, sometimes wrapped up as packages.

Teenagers escaped by joining teams of workers forced to labor outside the ghetto. They were placed in families, orphanages, hospitals or convents.

Records show that Sendler’s team of about 20 people saved nearly 2,500 children from the Warsaw Ghetto between October 1940 and its final liquidation in April 1943, when the Nazis burned the ghetto, shooting the residents or sending them to death camps.

In hopes of one day uniting the children with their families – most of whom perished in the Nazis’ death camps, Sendler wrote the children’s real names on slips of paper that she kept at home.

When German police came to arrest her in 1943, an assistant managed to hide the slips, which Sendler later buried in a jar under an apple tree in an associate’s yard. Some 2,500 names were recorded.

Anyone caught helping Jews in Nazi-occupied Poland risked being summarily shot, along with family members – a fate Sendler only barely escaped herself after the 1943 raid by the Gestapo. The Nazis took her to the notorious Pawiak prison, which few people left alive. Gestapo agents tortured her repeatedly, leaving Sendler with scars on her body – but she refused to betray her team. Zegota, an underground organization helping Jews, paid a bribe to German guards to free her from the prison. Under a different name, she continued her work.

After World War II, Sendler continued to assist some of the children she rescued.

Irena Sendler was nominated for the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize, but did not win. The winner was Al Gore who narrated a slide show.

Questions The Lapdog Media Should Ask President Obama But Don’t Because They Are Too Busy Humping His Leg

Why was he only slightly challenged in one interview? Did they learn anything that they didn’t already know about healthcare reform. President Obama didn’t bother to grant Fox an interview– actually he said last Thursday that “I will not waste time with those who have made the calculation that it’s better politics to kill this plan than improve it”. But aside for the pettiness, his decision to snub “Fox News Sunday”, wasn’t very wise considering that a Sept. 16th comparision of cable news viewership yielded this result:

FOX News – 1,548,000 viewers

CNN – 563,000 viewers

MSNBC –421,000 viewers

CNBC – 212,000 viewers

HLN – 336,000 viewers

If President Obama’s goal is to get the truth out about his healthcare reform plan, then why not contend for and defend the plan that you believe is best for all Americans. Perhaps he knows it’s not best for all Americans and just the Americans he cares about, or perhaps he doesn’t care who it’s best for as long as he brings forth his agenda–dare I say hidden agenda.

On Glenn Beck’s show yesterday, he asked the questions that the Lapdog media should have asked but didn’t and then showed previous clips of President Obama telling us how he really feels in his own words.

President Obama are you a proponent of single payer universal healthcare plan? If so, are you slow walking it by using the public option? In other words Mr. President are merely laying the foundation for single payer universal healthcare in the future? Is the ultimate goal to do away with private insurance altogether?

Mr. President are you more concerned about the will of the American people, 46% of whom are happy with their insurance or is it more important to you to do the biddings of George Soros and the groups he funds like the Tide Alliance, ACORN,and SEIU? Mr. President what is the probability of the Democrats using the “Nuclear Option” to get this bill passed in the House? Do you support that? Mr. President why do you associate yourself with people who hold such radical points of view?

Mr. President you have been quite critical of former President Bush and not without reason, yet you have maintained and in some instances expanded the very policies you criticized — Why? You have appointed radical, marxist, revolutionary and even criminal individuals to key positions in your administration — Why? Do you know what these people have said and done in the past? Are you selecting these individuals because you are of one mind with them? What did you mean your first day in office when you said “We are 5 days away from fundamentally transforming the United States of America”? Did you mean Mr. President it is your intention to put in place the coalitions of power to bring about redistributive change?

Mr. President you have said in your own words that you have worked closely with ACORN and that they would play a key role in “shaping the agenda” for the United State of America, so are you being truthful when you say that you haven’t been watching them very closely? To be blunt Mr. President, why are you playing dumb?

Mr. President, are you at all concerned about lower and middle class Americans who will be adversely affecting by rising energy costs as a result of Cap & Trade? You said yourself that electricity rates would “necessarily skyrocket”, do you think utility companies will absorb that cost or pass it along to consumers?
Mr. President,is your idea of comprehensive immigration reform granting Amnesty to to 20 million illegal immigrants here currently? If so, then is that how you come to the conclusion that illegal aliens will not be covered in the healthcare reform bill?

So those are the questions that should be put to President Obama but unfortunately the Lapdog Media will not ask. Why? Those of you accusing Fox News and it’s host of racism, are these not reasonable concerns especially in light of President Obama’s very own words and deeds? Those of you who feel that Fox viewers are uniformed, do you know the answers to these questions? If so, then will you please address them instead of accusing reasonable people of racism, and self-hatred if said reasonable person asking happens to be black. Lastly because I’m really curious do you really give slightly a shade left of a damn who President Obama thinks will win the World Series?

Never In American History Has A President Had As Many Death Threats, Who Cares!

Those are the words of one of my bff’s….I suspected that she was just repeating something she’d heard on Urban radio in the morning because that’s the kind of incidendiary misinformation disseminated these days. Then I ran across the most interesting article this evening by John Perazzo at Newsrealblog.com:

“Ever since the Tea Party phenomenon exploded onto the political scene a few months back, the Left has been up in arms over the inflammatory and offensive rhetoric featured on some of the signs and placards displayed by those in attendance. Chris Matthews, Keith Olbermann, and Rachel Maddow, among others, have fumed repeatedly about the bad taste exhibited by many of those expressing their displeasure with the President and his policies.

The Huffington Post ran a feature on this subject, titled “10 Most Offensive Tea Party Signs,” which singled out, among others, the following winners — or perhaps “losers” is a more apt term:

“Obama’s Plan: White Slavery”
“The American taxpayers are the Jews for Obama’s ovens”
“Our tax $ given to Hamas to Kill Christians, Jews, & Americans”
“Obama: What you talking about Willis? Spend my money?”
“Obama loves taxes, bankrupt USA, loves baby killing”
“Barack Hussein Obama: The new face of Hitler”
“Barack Obama supports abortion, sodomy, socialism, and the New World Order”
“Obama was not bowing [to the Saudi king]. He was sucking Saudi jewels.”
That’s pretty salty stuff. Reasonable people must concede that rhetoric like this is crude and offensive.

A question does come to mind, however: Exactly how did the Huffington Post go about selecting these particular signs for recognition? A simple Internet search turns up a whole host of protesters’ signs that were considerably more offensive, and more graphic, than these. Many of them, in fact, issued explicit calls for violence against the President. Among the uglier, more reprehensible examples were the following:

1.One sign exhorted Americans to “kill” the President and “bomb his f—in White House.”
2.Another said, “I’m here to kill” the President.
3.Another said to “hang” the President.
4.Another said the President “is the disease, death is the cure.”
5.Another said the President is “the only dope worth shooting.”
6.Another showed a likeness of the President’s face with a bullet hole in the forehead, oozing red blood.
7.Another called explicitly for the “death” of the “pig” in the White House.
8.Another displayed a caricature of the President’s disembodied, bleeding head.
9.Others featured the President’s face accompanied by such captions as: “Wanted: dead or alive,” and “Death to the dictator.”
10.Another showed the President’s neck being fitted with a noose.
11.Still another showed the image of a noose accompanied by a caption urging us to “support” the President (i.e., with the noose).
Perhaps examples 10 and 11 above, evoking images of lynchings, lend some credence to the claims of Jimmy Carter, who has told conservatives that, however much they may wish to deny it, their criticisms of President Obama are, in the final analysis, motivated chiefly by a subconscious racism that simply cannot accept a black man as President.

Oh, but wait. Actually, none of the signs in the numbered list above were displayed at Tea Party rallies protesting President Obama and his policies. They were displayed during the previous administration, at rallies protesting President George W. Bush and his policies.

President Obama’s Orwellian Double Speak Has Reached An Epic Level

In an interview with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos, President Obama declares that the individual healthcare mandate is NOT A TAX…. Why? Well, just because he said so.

ABC: You were against the individual [health insurance] mandate…during the campaign.

OBAMA: Yes.

ABC: Under this mandate, the government is forcing people to spend money, fining you if you don’t. How is that not a tax?

OBAMA: Now what I’ve said is that if you can’t afford health insurance, you certainly shouldn’t be punished for that. That’s just piling on. If, on the other hand, we’re giving tax credits, we’ve set up an exchange, you are now part of a big pool, we’ve driven down the costs, we’ve done everything we can and you actually can afford health insurance, but you’ve just decided, you know what, I want to take my chances. And then you get hit by a bus and you and I have to pay for the emergency room care, that’s…

ABC: That may be, but it’s still a tax increase.

OBAMA: No. That’s not true, George. For us to say that you’ve got to take a responsibility to get health insurance is absolutely not a tax increase. What it’s saying is, is that we’re not going to have other people carrying your burdens for you anymore than the fact that right now everybody in America, just about, has to get auto insurance. Nobody considers that a tax increase. People say to themselves, that is a fair way to make sure that if you hit my car, that I’m not covering all the costs.

Storm Emerges Over How to Fill Kennedy’s Senate Seat

The slimy demon-crats in Massachusetts are trying to back peddle on a succession decison they made to prevent Mitt Romney, Republican Governor back in 2004 from appointing a Republican Senator if the seat became vacant, now the dimocrats see the folly of their retarded decision and wish to reverse what they did, hey, what did you expect, business as usual in the Obama party.

BOSTON—A Democratic push to appoint a successor to the late Sen. Edward Kennedy is sparking a political firestorm in Massachusetts, infuriating Republicans and dividing Democrats who only five years ago passed a law requiring that voters fill Senate vacancies.

On a day when members of both parties paid their respects to Mr. Kennedy, a Democratic icon who died this week of brain cancer, Republicans accused Democrats of hypocrisy. In 2004, the state’s Democrat-controlled legislature changed the law to prevent the governor from appointing an interim successor after a U.S. Senate seat becomes vacant. Instead, the new law requires that a special election be held between 145 and 165 days after the position becomes vacant.

At the time, Sen. John Kerry was running for president and Massachusetts had a Republican governor, Mitt Romney. Proponents of changing the law argued that a gubernatorial appointment was undemocratic and that only voters should decide on a replacement. Democrats also feared Mr. Romney would appoint a Republican.

Now, with Mr. Kennedy dying three years before his term was up, some Massachusetts Democrats are reversing course, calling for Democratic Gov. Deval Patrick to appoint an interim replacement to hold office until the special election can be held. They now argue the state shouldn’t be without full Senate representation for months, especially with pressing issues such as health care before Congress.

The Massachusetts situation is the latest to erupt over filling vacant U.S. Senate seats, following particularly messy appointments in New York and Illinois.

On Thursday, Mr. Kennedy’s casket traveled by motorcade to Boston from his family’s Hyannis Port, Mass., compound. Mourners lined streets along the route as the hearse passed by colonial-era Faneuil Hall and the Rose Kennedy Greenway, a public park named for Mr. Kennedy’s mother.

The senator was to lie in repose for public viewing Thursday and Friday at the John F. Kennedy library on Boston’s harbor. President Barack Obama will deliver the eulogy at the funeral Saturday morning in Boston, before Mr. Kennedy is buried next to his slain brothers John and Robert at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia.

Away from the political infighting, mourners lamented Massachusetts’s loss of influence in the U.S. Senate. “Whoever goes in will not have remotely close to the influence he had,” said Ted Glynn of Boston. “That’s a big concern.”

The question of how to fill Mr. Kennedy’s seat is vexing Democrats. In 2004, Mr. Kennedy supported a special election rather than a gubernatorial appointment. Yet more recently, he wrote to Mr. Patrick and legislative leaders, urging that Massachusetts give the governor the power to appoint an interim successor.

Mr. Kennedy wrote that the governor should receive “an explicit personal commitment” from the appointee not to become a candidate in the special election. Mr. Patrick has supported the idea, and brushes aside concerns that Democrats were being inconsistent: “Massachusetts needs two voices in the United States Senate,” he said this week.

In 2004, Democrats took the opposite tack. When some Republicans complained of the cost of a special election, Democratic Rep. William Straus said such reasoning might have been used in a “totalitarian country” and that “one person, whoever happens to be governor, will not make the decision for you.”

In an interview Thursday, Mr. Straus stood by his words. He said there always will be a pressing issue in Washington that seems more important than having an election. “We need to hold ourselves to the higher principles of democracy,” he said.

Massachusetts state Sen. Brian A. Joyce, a Democrat who headed the election-laws committee in 2004, agreed. “If we were to allow an appointment, it would be wholly undemocratic,” he said. “When you cut through the rhetoric on both sides, it’s pure partisan politics.”

Earlier this year, State Rep. Robert Koczera, a Democrat, introduced a bill that seeks to restore the governor’s senate appointment powers. In 2004, he supported stripping Mr. Romney of the power to appoint a replacement senator.

He said he was against the idea in 2004 because he thought Mr. Romney’s replacement would be able to run in the special election. Under Mr. Koczera’s proposed bill, the replacement couldn’t run.

“It’s unfortunate this is being viewed in the partisan light,” Mr. Koczera said.

State Rep. Frank Smizik, a Democrat, also backs an interim appointment. “I strongly believe in the electorate’s deciding the election of our officials,” he said. “However, Massachusetts should have a vote on the important issues like health care and global warming. To not do so would be cutting off your nose to spite your face.”

Massachusetts Republicans pledged to make the most of the Democrats’ reversal in coming elections. “If legislators go through with this, they are gigantic hypocrites,” said Jennifer Nassour, chairman of the Massachusetts Republican Party. “There is no other way to label them.”

Filling a Senate vacancy recently created a headache for New York Gov. David Paterson, who had the power to fill the seat vacated by Hillary Clinton when she became secretary of state. Mr. Paterson considered Caroline Kennedy—Mr. Kennedy’s niece—but after an episode that generated unflattering publicity for both Mr. Paterson and Ms. Kennedy, he ended up choosing then-Rep. Kirsten E. Gillibrand.

Last year in Illinois, meanwhile, former Gov. Rod Blagojevich was accused of trying to sell the seat vacated by Mr. Obama. He eventually picked Roland Burris, but questions about what may have influenced his choice continued for months.

The Absent-Minded Chairman

When normal people happen to “find” their own money, it might mean a twenty left in a winter coat, or discovering change beneath the sofa cushions. But if you’re Charlie Rangel, it means doubling your net worth.

Earlier this month the Chairman of the tax-writing Ways and Means Committee “amended” his 2007 financial disclosure form—to the tune of more than a half-million dollars in previously unreported assets and income. That number may be as high as $780,000, because Congress’s ethics rules only require the Members to report their finances within broad ranges. This voyage of personal financial discovery brings Mr. Rangel’s net worth for 2007 to somewhere between $1.028 million and $2.495 million, while his previous statement came in at $516,015 and $1.316 million.

When you’re a powerful Congressman and working diligently to increase tax rates to pay for President Obama’s health-care plan, we suppose it’s easy to lose track of one of your checking accounts. That would be the one at the federal credit union with a balance somewhere between $250,001 and maybe as high as $500,000. And when you’re crunched for time and pulling together bills to pass in a rush, we guess, too, that you might overlook several other investment accounts, even if some of them are sizable, such as the ones Mr. Rangel missed at JP Morgan, Merrill Lynch, Oppenheimer and BlackRock.

Oh, and those vacant properties in Glassboro, in southern Jersey? Everybody in Manhattan tries not to think much about New Jersey, so those lots and their as-much-as-$15,000 value must also have slipped down the memory hole. (The New York Post reported yesterday that Mr. Rangel failed to pay property taxes for two of the lots, according to the county clerk’s office.)

The Chairman probably isn’t doing a lot of dining at KFC, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell or Long John Silver’s, either, which may explain why he didn’t disclose the $1,001 to $15,000 in stock he owns in Yum Brands, the conglomerate that runs those chain restaurants. Compared to his undisclosed portfolio stake in PepsiCo—$15,001 to $50,000—that’s practically a rounding error.

All lawmakers amend their financial reports from time to time, though rarely are the errors this extensive. Via email, a Rangel spokesman declined to offer details about how the errors occurred, noting that “Once the Ethics Committee completes its work, then we can answer questions in more detail.” He added that Mr. Rangel is now “confident that his records have been subjected to an exhaustive and complete review, and that the amendments accurately reflect his financial interests.”

Among other issues, Mr. Rangel is currently under investigation regarding his use of four rent-stabilized apartments at New York City’s tony Lenox Terrace and soliciting donations with his official letterhead for the Charles B. Rangel Center for Public Service at City College of New York, which was itself built with a $1.9 million earmark. Yet another part of the probe is his failure to report $75,000 in income from a rental villa at the beachfront Punta Cana Yacht Club, in the Dominican Republic.

Mr. Rangel blamed that last one on the language barrier because he doesn’t speak Spanish. We can only imagine what language he speaks with his accountants and tax attorneys.
